GM - State of Play

New South Wales
For now, Bayer has pulled out of planting GM canola in NSW.  It is believed to be because they would have to compete against high yielding conventional canola and the yields of GM canola are just not high enough, and they would be caught out selling an expensive chemical dependent lie.  See what has happened to the Canadians. www.nfu.ca

Victoria
With a four year moratorium in Victoria against planting GM crops.  The planting has already started.  So far the whereabouts is secret.  There is no provision for liability when there is contamination with other crops.  Contamination will happen because in Canada where GM canola has been planted the whole country has been contaminated.  Some politicians and farmers say that if a farmer wants to plant GM canola he should have the choice because it will not affect anybody else.  With what has happened in Canada it means that that politician or farmer is either an ignoramus or a liar.  What these people obviously want is contamination; strange because the world does not want genetically engineered food.  People have already died because of the novel proteins in GM food.  When the first contamination happens, should the person who said go ahead and plant and the farmers that planted GM without liability insurance, not be made liable and sent to prison?

South Australia
In South Australia there is to be unlimited planting of GM canola, it is said to happen with strict controls but no liability.  So what is meant by controls?  Are they to put up a fence to stop the pollen flow?  Who will be liable for saying go ahead and plant?

WA, TAS and QLD
For the time being WA and TAS have said no to GM crops but it appears the Peter Beattie in QLD either does not have a clue or does not care.  Would somebody get him to read SEEDS OF DECEPTION and wise up?

GM food and the Free Trade Agreement
Will our supermarket shelves be loaded with genetically engineered food; unlabelled?  Will it be dumped on us by way of the Free Trade Agreement because the US cannot sell their contaminated food on the world market?  Who will be sent to prison when the first Australian dies from anaphylactic shock because of eating a genetically engineered product?  Not many will die but some must or at least need an antihistamine to survive an extreme allergic reaction.  Children up to the age of two are said to be most at risk.
